For five years Charlie Simpson wrote a popular monthly article on seafood for Shetland Fishing News, "primarily to entertain". Gathered together for the first time, In Da Galley contains seafood recipes and much more besides.

Charlie was born in Lerwick in 1947 and has lived in Shetland all his life, apart from three student years in Edinburgh. He worked as a development officer for Shetland Islands Council for twenty-three years, mainly in aquaculture, and now, since taking early retirement in 1998, is happy to potter round his croft.

From a very early age he was introduced into the production and preparation of food, as his crofting and fishing forebears did for centuries.
